Economic Development:
Missouri has suffered significant job losses in the recent economic downturn. Areas like real estate, manufacturing, and construction have taken the hardest hits. To rebound, a bold growth strategy is needed to keep Missouri competitive in the 21st century job market. Elijah has just such a plan laid out in detail in the Platform Section of the website.
Size of Government:
Elijah believes that the Constitutional foundations of the state and the country provide for a limited government with clearly defined rights and responsibilities. He believes that the best government is local government, which can be responsive to the needs of the citizens and he will be a committed check against the growth of unnecessary regulations and government interference with free enterprise.
Property Rights:
Property rights are some of the most important protections afforded citizens by the state and federal Constitutions. Unfortunately, those rights have been under attack by eminent domain abuse including the infamous Kelo decision. Elijah will fight to protect private property rights in the state legislature.
Gun Control:
Raised on a farm in southwest Missouri, Elijah understands the importance of these rights for hunting and, as a student of history, he is keenly aware of the importance the founders placed on the right to keep and bear arms. Elijah is a member of the NRA and will always be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms.
Taxes:
While taxes are a necessary part of state government, Elijah remains committed to a low rate and a simple tax system that keeps Missouri competitive in the Midwest and the nation. He will strongly oppose any tax increases that burden the citizens of Missouri and drive jobs out of state.
Abortion:
Elijah believes in the sanctity of human life and will be a strong defender of the rights of the unborn. With the advances in technology and the ability of science to track heartbeats, DNA development, and brain waves in the unborn, he believes the personhood of the innocent is self evident and entitled to Constitutional protections. He will be a strong proponent of the right to life.
Education:
Elijah has attended three different colleges and universities in Missouri and knows firsthand the value of Missouri’s higher education system to Missouri. On his platform page, Elijah offers his plan to improve the quality of Missouri’s K-12 and higher education systems.
Ethics Reform:
The strength of the government is built upon the trust of its citizens. Therefore Elijah has a two part plan for strengthening the ethics rules of the Missouri government. See more on his Platform section.
